Instead of going to the nearest multiplex, there are some smaller venues where (for the same price, or sometimes cheaper), you can see some lesser-known movies that might normally get shown only in LA or New York.
The Amherst Cinema & Pleasant Street Theatre (Northampton)
Want to see a movie, but don’t feel like running into every other kid in your class? These lesser-known theaters in Amherst and Northampton are the perfect places to go unnoticed. Before or after the movie, both towns have great (and cheap) places for dinner and coffee. Great for a date night or to just a low-key hang out evening.
The Tower Theaters (South Hadley)
The best part about the Tower Theaters is the Rocky Horror Picture Show. The cult classic is screened every Saturday at midnight, with a pre-show and live cast helping you through all those lines.
The Academy of Music (in Northampton)
Musicals, movies, plays, recitals, and symphonies are frequently offered at this under-appreciated Valley spot.
Mercy House is a church (though kind of an alternative church) that frequently puts on great teen-friendly concerts. Not into religion? Don’t worry; Mercy House won’t try to hook you into going to a sermon, they just want to provide a teen-friendly space.
